our schematic design proposals for Narooma aim to create community empowerment and cultural preservation while integrating cultural heritage, education and economic opportunities. observations of the natural world, such as the blooming of certain plants, wildlife behaviour and moon cycles are used by Aboriginal people to live according to the seasons as a natural calendar. by embracing Indigenous knowledge, our design can harmonise with the natural cycles of the environment with sustainable materiality and passive design, advocating respect for the environment and honouring ancestral wisdom passed down through generations. our design proposals for Narooma aim to create community empowerment and cultural preservation while integrating cultural heritage, education and economic opportunities. our community design pays homage to the six seasons of the Aboriginal calendar of the region, through education and adaptable spatial arrangements that respond to the environmental conditions. similarly, cultural considerations are translated through various gathering and cooking spaces, recognition of the local fishing culture, landscaping that embraces native flora and flexible spaces both internally and externally.
